Vintage seems like a hit or miss. And the good ones always go to someone else

A black leather jacket open over a cream knit, with black wide trousers and a belt, standing on a brick-lined sidewalk.
Weekday
The same black leather jacket zipped up, with wide khaki pleated trousers cuffed over black lace-up shoes, on a tree-lined sidewalk.

One box, start to finish

Here's one we put together

It started with the printed dress. Once we had that, we looked for pieces that would carry it through a week: a blazer for the office, a pair of jeans for the weekend, and a cropped denim jacket for warmer days. Three outfits came out of those four pieces, and yours would come together the same way, around your measurements and your vibe.

The printed dress worn as a short dress, belted, under a dark brown blazer with sheer tights and heels.
The same printed dress worn long as a sleeveless tunic over wide jeans, with loafers and a shoulder bag.
The same printed dress worn short under an open denim jacket, with a straw hat, basket bag and sandals.

The four pieces behind them one older, three to go with it

The older piece laid flat in window light: a sleeveless shift dress in a brown and orange print with orange trim at the neck and arms.

What you get

This time, the good one goes to you

  1. It fits

Everything is chosen to your measurements rather than to a size on a tag, so it sits the way you like.

  2. No surprises

We write down every flaw before a piece ships, so you know exactly what's coming before you open the box.

  3. You'll actually wear it

We work out three outfits for you before it arrives, so nothing ends up sitting in the closet.

  4. Nothing to lose

If one piece isn't quite right, we'll swap it for you. One free exchange comes with every box.

Frequently asked questions

Why measurements and not a size?

Because a size on an old label rarely means what it did when it was sewn in. Your measurements, along with how you like your clothes to sit, tell us far more than a letter on a tag ever could, and they're what we use to decide whether a piece will really fit you.

What sizes do you cover?

We don't keep a size chart, because nothing is stocked ahead of time. Once you order, we look for pieces that match your measurements. Some sizes are harder to find among older clothes, so if the right piece hasn't turned up within four weeks we'll let you know, and you're welcome to wait a little longer or take a full refund.

Why does it take four weeks?

Because nothing is waiting on a shelf. We start looking for your older piece once your order is in, and when we've found it we look for three pieces to go with it, in your size. Good things take a little while to turn up, and we'd rather wait for the right one than send the nearest one.

What condition are the clothes in?

Worn, and looked after. Every flaw we find is written down before a piece ships, so nothing should surprise you when you open the box. Anything with moth damage, underarm wear or tired elastic never makes it into a box at all.

What if one piece doesn't fit or I don't like it?

Send that one piece back and we'll find you another. One exchange per box is free, with shipping both ways on us, and the other three pieces stay with you in the meantime.

Can I choose the pieces myself?

Not piece by piece, and that's rather the point. You tell us your measurements, the colours and shapes you wear, and anything in particular you're hoping for, and we do the finding. Think of it as clothes chosen for you rather than a shop to scroll through.

Can I follow the search?

Yes, and we hope you will. Your account shows where we've looked, with a clue or two along the way. Now and then we'll find something close and ask whether you'd like us to take it or keep looking. You have one send-back and one change of direction over the course of the hunt, and a candidate waits a day for your answer. When we find the piece, you can choose to see it straight away or wait and be surprised.

Can I cancel?

Yes, right up until we post “Found it”, for a full refund and with no questions asked. After that we've bought the piece for you, so the sale is final, though if it arrives and isn't quite right, one piece can still be exchanged free of charge.

What if you can't find the older piece?

We'll write and ask whether you'd like to give us a little more time. You can wait, or take your money back, whichever you prefer. We would much rather refund you than fill a box just to make the number work.

Do you ship outside Canada?

Not just yet. Within Canada, shipping is a single flat rate anywhere in the country, with tracking.

Do I need an account?

No, an email address is all you need to order. Afterwards we'll send a link to set a password, so you can follow the hunt, keep your measurements on file and sort out an exchange if you ever need one.

Anything else on your mind? Write to us at support@nanakept.ca, or read the policies in full.

Not ready yet?

We'll write when we've come across a wardrobe worth telling you about, or have an offer worth your while. Once or twice a month at most.

Our first customers get launch pricing, and we'll let you know before it changes.
